AutoCAD remains the industry standard for architectural drafting. While AutoCAD's native rendering capabilities are limited, CAD2Real can transform your AutoCAD views into photorealistic visualizations in seconds.
Supported Export Methods
You can get your AutoCAD drawings into CAD2Real using several methods:
- PNG/JPG Screenshot: Fastest method, works with any AutoCAD version
- EXPORTTOIMAGE Command: High-quality raster export
- 3D Model Export (OBJ/FBX): For 3D AutoCAD models
Method 1: Screenshot Export (Recommended)
The fastest way to get started. Works with 2D drawings, 3D models, and any AutoCAD version.
1 Set Up Your View
Navigate to the view you want to render. For best results:
- Use 3D perspective view (not parallel projection)
- Set visual style to Shaded or Wireframe
- Hide annotation layers (dimensions, text, grids)
2 Export the Image
Use the EXPORTTOIMAGE command:
File format: PNG
Resolution: 1920x1080 or higher
Or simply take a screenshot (Windows: Win+Shift+S, Mac: Cmd+Shift+4)
3 Upload to CAD2Real
Upload the PNG file. The AI will analyze your AutoCAD view and generate a photorealistic render.
Method 2: 3D Model Export
If you're working with 3D AutoCAD models, you can export directly:
Export to OBJ
File type: Wavefront OBJ (*.obj)
Select objects: All
Export to FBX
(Requires AutoCAD 2017 or later)
Optimizing Your AutoCAD Export
Camera Setup
The perspective in your AutoCAD view will be preserved in the render. Set up your camera carefully:
- CAMERA command: Create a named camera for consistent views
- Target height: Set to 1.6m for eye-level perspective
- Lens length: 35-50mm for natural architectural proportions
Layers to Hide
Before exporting, turn off layers that shouldn't appear in the render:
- Dimensions and annotations
- Construction lines and reference geometry
- Grid lines
- Furniture blocks (unless you want them rendered)
- Section markers and callouts
Visual Style Settings
The visual style affects how CAD2Real interprets your model:
- Shaded: Best for 3D models, shows volumes clearly
- Wireframe: Works for elevations and sections
- Realistic: AutoCAD's basic rendering, good starting point

Troubleshooting
Model Appears Distorted
Ensure you're using perspective view, not parallel projection. Use the PERSPECTIVE system variable set to 1.
Missing Elements
Check that all layers are visible. Use LAYON command to turn on all layers before export.
Low Resolution Export
Increase the export resolution in EXPORTTOIMAGE settings. Minimum recommended: 1920x1080.
AutoCAD + CAD2Real Workflow Benefits
- No plugins required: Works with vanilla AutoCAD
- Any version supported: From AutoCAD 2010 to latest
- Fast iteration: Update drawing, re-export, new render in minutes
- Cost effective: No V-Ray or rendering software licenses needed
